CHAGCHARAN (SW): Hundreds of Ghor residents on Saturday took to the streets against governor Nasir Khazeh.
The protesters said a presidential decree against land grabbing has not been implemented in the province. They also charged the governor’s alleged weak administration for also failing to expedite counter-insurgency operation in the Ghilmeen area of the province. They urged upon the higher-ups in the government to replace Khazeh with a more competent governor.
In a declaration issued at the end of the demonstration, the protesters warned the National Unity Government (NUG) of more agitations if their demands are not met.
Responding to the demands of the protesters, governor Nasir Khazeh said a committee has been formed in collaboration with the municipality to look into the issue of land-grabbing. He said a committee had previously marked the lands grabbed in Freoz Koh. He pronounced this a complex issue while blaming consecutive mayors for distributing patches of land.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Arif Qazizada, mayor of Feroz Koh, argued that the provincial government has repeatedly ignored the concerns raised in connection with land-grabbing. He went on to charge parliamentarians, military officials and other warlord for engaging in this criminal activity here.
Municipality officials say they have only managed to reclaim half of 85 jeribs of land grabbed here.
