KABUL (SW): Representatives of the central Ghor province in the Masharano Jirga (upper house) on Thursday called for stern action against the perpetrators behind the mass killing of civilians.
Parliamentarians and civil society activists from Ghor announced to cut ties with the government until the culprits behind the carnage are not brought to justice. A day earlier, armed rebels killed 30 civilians, wounded 11 people and took away with them six more civilians at a distance of only 15 kilometers from the provincial capital Feroz Koh.
Addressing a presser in Kabul today, the Ghor representatives lamented that the security officials have not taken notice of this tragedy, and the province has been deprived of security and equal share in development projects. Karamuddin Raza Zada, a member of the Wolesi Jirga said on the occasion that the government should pay serious attention to the deteriorating security situation in the province.
Ahmad Saeedi, a local from the province, said that if the government did not pay attention towards the security in the province and failed to help families of the victims, all parliamentarians from Ghor would boycott the parliament.
It was also noted that the armed rebels are also busy forcefully collecting taxes from the locals.
Victims’ families calls for justice
The victims’ families on Thursday laid the bodies of civilians to rest in the Kasi area in Feroz Koh city. The mourners called for justice and security. “The militants came here yesterday and stole a herd of some 2500 sheeps but when the poor shepherds went after them they killed 30 of them and six more people are still missing”, Mawlawi Ibrahim Khalil, a local said on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Abdul Hai Khatibi, spokesman for the provincial governor, vowed that clean-up operation has begun to nab the culprits and liberate the abducted men. He added that the locals in Ghilmeen area have been warned not to cooperate with the rebels.
