KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said media should expose those interfering in appointment of security personnel.
Addressing the graduation ceremony of fresh Afghan National Police (ANP) cadets at the Kabul Police Academy, the President said those who have entered the ranks of the security forces on the basis of relationships have either fled from the battlefield or stole from the security forces. He said any parliamentarian or other person visiting the Ministry of Interior for the appointments or promotion of their relatives and friends would be exposed.
Ghani vowed all appointments, transfers and promotions will be based on the merit, rules and regulations without any favors or compromises.
President Ghani added that the Special Forces (commandos) of the Afghan National Army (ANA) have been doubled in numbers, and the size of the Afghan Air Force )AAF) will also be raised three times so that the ANP can focus on law enforcement activities within the cities.
President Ghani stressed the ANP should be entitled to similar standards of healthcare provisions available to ANA and other forces.
Security officials have long been complaining against interference of parliamentarians in appointments, transfers and promotions.
