Ghani underlines regional consensus for peace process at SCO

MONITORING (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has underlined the need for regional consensus and support for the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process during his engagements at the Shanghai Corporation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

President Ghani met his counterparts from Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan as well as the Prime Minister of Indian on the sidelines of the SCO summit.

According to the Arg, the Chinese President Xi Jinping assured support to Afghanistan in various sectors within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese side firmly supports a comprehensive and inclusive Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace and reconciliation process and will continue to actively encourage and promote talks through various channels to help the Afghan people achieve internal dialogue, President Xi said as quoted by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua. 

It added the Chinese President said his country supports Afghanistan and Pakistan to improve relations, enhance mutual trust and carry out cooperation and is ready to further promote the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral cooperation.

The Arg said during a meeting with President Ghani, Prime Minister Modi underlined the friendly and strategic ties between Afghanistan and India while assuring support for the Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process.
