KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani stressed upon quality service delivery at civic level across the country.
Speaking at the 3rd National Program on Urbanization, the President stated that municipalities across the country lack a proper action plan. The President stressed that the National Unity Government (NUG) is committed to improve the service delivery in this regard.
He mentioned that according to the new development programs, all the historical sites including rivers and mountains would be protected. Ghani noted that the civic condition in the capital Kabul is “regretful”. He, nonetheless, added that the NUG is trying to find out fundamental solutions for the challenges the capital is faced with.
Ghani asked the Kabul Municipality to provide services in return for the taxes paid by the citizens. The President went on to say that municipalities are duty-bound to protect and develop the cities. He stated the though changes have been brought in the municipalities, but not enough is done yet.
Mohammad Ashraf Ghani vowed the government would not sell valuable lands in the capital, and in collaboration with the private sectors, the government would transform these lands into national assets.
In the meantime, Mansur Nadiri, the minister at the Ministry of Urban Development Affairs & Housing (MUDAH) stated that during the previous year, the MUDAH has tried its best to lift he face of the capital. He noted that for the time being the government is working on new Master Plans for six major cities of the country.
