KABUL (SW): A number of Wolesi Jirga (lower house) members criticized President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s recent remarks on Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) while addressing the Annual European Union Anti-Corruption Conference on Monday here in Kabul.

The WJ members on Wednesday’s session expressed reaction over the remarks of the President who had said “MoI is the most corruption institute” and some “MoFA’s appointment are done on ethnic basis”. Samiullah Samim, a member of the house, blamed Ghani for the same. Meanwhile, some members welcomed the remarks by the President regarding the two ministries. These members said the remarks by the President were not directed at the ministers, but President Ghani pointed at the rampant corruption present in these two ministries.

Nasima Niazi, another member of the house, claimed that nepotism and corruption is present in these ministries. The members also said many Afghan ambassadors in foreign countries and other high ranking official at the MoFA are appointed by the President himself. The WJ had previously requested the MoFA to provide a list of all ambassadors and diplomats, but so far the MoFA has not provided any list.
