KABUL (SW): In a clear reference to Taliban’s call for a new unity set-up, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani made it clear on Friday that the country cannot afford to always start from the scratch.
Ghani said this in his Eid-day message in which he welcomed the positive approach by Mulla Ommar, Taliban’s supreme leader. Two days earleri, Omar said in his message the objective behind interactions with countries of the world and Afghans is to bring an end to the “occupation and to establish an independent Islamic system”.
Two weeks ago, Taliban representatives met Afghan officials in Pakistan’s tourist resort Murree in for a landmark face to face interaction.
“All Mujahidin and countrymen should be confident that in this process, I will unwaveringly defend our legal rights and viewpoint everywhere”, Omar said. He also underlined the need to form a new national unity government.
The President said in his message that immediate contacts with Pakistan after the formation of the government led to some positive developments in regard to the peace process. He stressed that national interests will always be kept supreme in talks with Pakistan and the Taliban.
Ghani remarked that as the peace talks were underway with the Taliban, Afghan forces would continue wiping out foreign terrorists. He said human rights would never be compromised under any circumstances.
