KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Thursday promised new measures to ensure security for the Dasht-e-Barchi residents in west of capital Kabul.
Addressing a gathering in connection with the Ashura-e-Muharam, Ghani asked the residents to nominate a representative as chief advisor to the president. He also promised to provide control of the security institutions in this part of the city to the representatives of the locals. Ghani added a directorate has been formed in Kabul’s police headquarters for this part of the city.
The president said enemies of Afghanistan want to divide the nation on ethnic and religious grounds. He said the government and people of Afghanistan are aware of such evil plans, and would not allow them to succeed.
Mohammad Sarwar Danish, second vice president, said on the occasion hundreds of youth got killed in string of terrorist attacks in this part of the city. He thanked the president for joining the locals in marking the Ashura-e-Muharam.
Tight security was in place on this occasion with security forces establishing additional check points across the city.
