KABUL (SW): Dozens of employees of the High Office of Oversight and Anti-Corruption (HOOAC) staged a protest against the President Ghani’s decree to shut down the HOOAC and handover the building to the Central Statistics Organization (CSO).
The protesters asserted the closure of HOOAC illegitimate and said that people inside the government whose corruption cases are with the HOOAC are after the closure of the anti-corruption office.
The protesters said that these corrupt people have influenced President Ghani to sign the demise of HOOAC and handover of the building to CSO. Protesters informed that the HOOAC has 6 offices across the country and some 400 in Kabul and about 20 other people have been working in the provinces, though, with the closure of this office they all lose their jobs.
The protesting employees said the termination or merger of this office with the other department is dubious and the government must respond to this issue soon.
Shah Hussain Mortazawi, head of the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson said that Sayed Hussain Fakhri, the head of the HOOAC had already been informed about this decision.
According to Mortazawi, the president has taken this decision consciously, nonetheless, protesting employees warned that if the government does not listen to their voices, the protest will continue.
