KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has said without transparent and trust worthy banking system, economic growth was not possible.
While formally introducing Director of Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) (Central bank) on Monday, the President said banking sector has evolved swiftly in short time and has had significant achievements, which are unrivaled in the region.
“The new ADB chief would be independent to integrate monetary policy and improve the banking system at a level where our traders can make international deals with liberty”, he said.
Ghani added banking sector was one of the main pillars of economic development. He mentioned that the Kabul Bank’s scam left deep stains on the face of this industry in Afghanistan. “Instead of delivering services to the people, their money was looted, he recalled.
He reiterated the resolve to bring the Kabul Bank culprits to justice.
Khalil Seddiq, the new DAB chief said on the occasion that the key practical measures were needed to bring much needed reforms in the banking sector.
He vowed to ensure transparency, efficiency and serve with a responsibility.
