KANDAHAR CITY (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani toured southern province Kandahar on Wednesday where he promised to improve and enhance the state of electricity.
President Ghani said in a gathering attended by tribal elders and local officials that the province would benefit a lot from the implementation of the TAPI and the mega solar-power projects.
The President met with a number of local officials, provincial council members, tribal elders and religious scholars during this trip.
The residents, during their meetings with the President, mentioned lack of electricity, unemployment, lack of education and security concerns as their biggest challenges.
The President assured them that they could receive up to 500 kilowatts of power via TAPI, 2,000 megawatt through the new turbine at the Kajaki Dam, and 120 megawatt more from Maiwand and Panjwai districts.
The President added that by establishing factories, more jobs can be created for the residents in the province.
He further said that the work was underway to link Kandahar via railroad with Pakistan, that would play a great role in the economic growth of Kandahar.
Ghani also visited the Kharqe Shariff shrine on his arrival in Kandahar.
Local officials in the province said that the President is expected to meet with the families of the victims who lost their lives due to a suicide attack at the Kandahar airport last month.
50 civilians were killed then, which included both military personnel and civilians, and 40 more were injured in the incident at the Kandahar Airport.
