KABUL (SW) – German defense minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, has called for the announcement of presidential polls' results in Afghanistan.
Speaking at a joint news conference with President Ashraf Ghani today, she said the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) shall announce the results of the presidential election without further delay. The German defense minister said the presidential candidates in Afghanistan and politicians must accept the results announced by the IEC.
This comes as supporters of the Stability and Partnership team by Abdullah Abdullah have been protesting in a number of provinces against what they call as fraud in the presidential election.
Protesters demand the IEC must invalidate the 300,000 alleged void votes.
The Council of Presidential Candidates also announced yesterday that a national partnership government should instead be created to get out of the current crisis.
The presidential polls were held in September, but the IEC is yet to come-up with the initial results.
