GENEVA (SW) – Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Unity Government, on Tuesday met with Mark Lukac, the United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and the Emergency Relief Coordinator, on the side-lines of Geneva Conference on Afghanistan.
In this meeting, Mr. Lukak, referring to recent droughts in the country, said the UN will remain committed to working with Afghanistan to address the issues of the displaced people. He also promised to increase the aid for Afghanistan in order to lift the government's ability to deal with natural disasters.
Underlining the significance of the UN’s continues aid, especially the urgent aid for the displaced, the victims of natural disasters and climate change, Abdullah Abdullah said this support can help save the lives of thousands of Afghans from eminent death.
The Geneva Conference on Afghanistan is aimed at gathering more pledges for support for Afghanistan as well as evaluating the performance of the Kabul government tin line with the commitments it has made with the international community. The main session of the conference would be held on Wednesday.
