KANDAHAR (SW) – Gen. Abdul Raziq, the slain police chief for Kandahar province, was laid to rest on Friday at the Shrine of the Cloak in Kandahar city.
A number of military and civilian leaders attended the funeral ceremony of Gen. Raziq. Speaking on the occasion, Gul Agha Sherzai, minister for Frontier and Tribal Affairs, said Gen. Raziq was a brave patriot, and no Afghan can forget his services to the nation. Haji Agha Lalay Dastgiri, deputy governor of Kandahar, pronounced the deadly shooting in the city that claim Raziq’s life as an unforgettable incident. He hailed the services of the slain police chief.
Wrapped in the tri-colour national flag, the coffin of Gen. Raziq was marched to the Shrine of the Cloak with full military protocol.
Hailing the bravery of Gen. Raziq, the chairman of Kandahar provincial council, Syed Jan Khakrezwal, said finding a replacement for the slain leader would be very difficult. Local elders, youth and religious figures also spoke about the sacrifice and patriotism of Gen. Raziq, and paid tribute to him.
The killing of Gen. Raziq has met with an outpouring of condolences and tribute to the longstanding icon of resilience in the south of the country.
