KANDAHAR CITY (SW): The Kandahar Police Chief has discarded reports about giving away control of disputed border villages at the Durand Line to Pakistan.

Gen. Abdul Raziq told reporters in Kandahar City that no such agreement has been reached with Pakistan on Luqman and Jahangir villages in the Spin Boldak district. “We have reached an agreement which states that the parts of these villages on both sides of the Durand Line would remain as they are”, he clarified.

He said high-level leadership of both the countries are engaged in talks about Durand Line management issues. Gen. Raziq added that Pakistan has established some new border check posts on its own side.

Two months ago, the border guards of both the countries got engaged in deadly clashes over the ownership of these two villages. That led to the closure of crossing point for up to a month.
