Gen. Dostum returns back to Kabul in a week

KABUL (SW): The controversy between the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani and his first vice-president General Abdul Rashid Dostum seems to have come to an end. A credible source in the National Unity Government (NUG), who wanted to remain anonymous, told Salam Watandar that Gen. Dostum will likely return to the country in a week.

Although the source did not provide any detail of the agreement between the Presidential Palace (Arg)  and the first vice president, but said that one of the issues discussed between Binali Yildirim, the Prime Minister of Turkey and President Ghani was the return of Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum the first vice president, back to the country.

The return of the first vice president, Gen. Dostum was one of the suggestions of the former Balkh Governor, Atta Mohammad Noor to the Arg, the source said.

The Arg and the National Islamic Movement of Afghanistan (Gen. Dostum’s party) refused to comment on this, however, Abdullah Abdullah, the CEO of NUG confirmed that during the visit of the Turkish Prime Minister to Kabul, the return of Gen. Dostum has been discussed. Though, Abdullah Abdullah did not provide any details.

Meanwhile, Ahmadzia Rafat, a political commentator told Salam Watandar that the ban on Gen. Dostum’s return to the country has been against the law and, on the other hand, Mr. Ishchi’s case against Gen. Dostum is a legal issue as well that cannot be skipped by an agreement between the President and the First Vice-President.

When Ahmad Ischi, one of Dostum’s political rivals, filed a lawsuit for sexual abuse against the first vice president and his bodyguards with the public prosecutor’s office, under pressure from the European Union, the United States of American and United Kingdom, President Ghani was forced to restrict Gen. Dostum’s official authorities as the first vice president and send him to exile in Turkey.

Gen. Dostum has not been allowed to return to Afghanistan until now.
