KABUL (SW) – A maiden gas-powered electricity generating unit has been launched in Jawzjan with an installed capacity of 42 megawatt.
Interim finance minister, Mohammad Humayun Qayumi, water and energy minister, Mohammad Gul Khimi and other officials took part in the inauguration ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Qayumi said the capacity can be lifted to 200 megawatt.
The project is funded by the Bayat Foundation with an investment of $ 40 million. The project is set to supply power to more than 40,000 residential units besides creating close to 400 job opportunities.
Water and energy minister, Khilmi said on his term that at least $ 370 million have been spent so far on solar and gas-powered electricity generation in the country.
Jawzjan governor, Lutfullah Azizi, hailed the development as crucial in creating jobs and paving way for progress here. Local residents have also welcomed the initiative.
