KABUL (SW) – Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, chief of the Hezb-e-Islami party, said on Sunday the country’s next president should not be a ‘dictator’.
Hekmatyar said this during a presser at his party headquarters in Kabul. In a clear reference to the forthcoming presidential elections, the HI chief said he does not want the next president to be someone reaching power through the U.S support.
He added the future president should not be a dictator, who is made president by political parties, but later forgets all of his pledges.
Commenting on the parliamentary elections, Hekmatyar said the whole electoral process was marred by irregularities, rigging. He said political parties demand reforms in the electoral system. He added the ‘engineered polls’ would not be acceptable, and the electoral process must not repeat the past troubles.
Demanding abolition of the post of the chief executive in the government, Hekmatyar said his party would back the presidential candidate not planning to have this post in the future setup.
