KABUL (SW): Afghanistan’s futsal squad at the the ongoing 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 2017) cruised through third successive victory by defeating Uzbekistan on the fifth day of the games.
Syed Reza, Ali Mehdi, Akbar Kazemi and Jawad Karimi scored goals in this nail-biting 4-2 victory over Uzbekistan. To secure first slot in the group, Afghanistan would take on the UAE on Thursday. The match would be played at 04:15pm Afghanistan time. The UAE has also won all three of its matches.
In other actions on the day 5, Afghanistan’s men and women’s basketball teams were in action. The women’s team lost 21-4 to Iran while the men’s team emerged victorious against Jordan 17-11. The basketball teams from Afghanistan would play their next matches on Friday.
In billiard, Afghanistan’s Saleh Mohammad has secured his place in the semi-final by defeating his opponents from Jordan, Philippines and India. He would face Iranian player on Thursday. In wresting, Naseer Ahmad and Nasimullah Sakhizada lost the opportunity to grab silver medals by losing to their opponents from Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan respectively. The two, however, have won bronze medals.
Afghan athletes failed a mark in taekwondo competitions as Hassan Rezai, Irfan Nazimi and Neela Ahmadi lost their matches of the fifth day.
Afghanistan is on 20th slot in the medal table with one gold, one silver and six bronze medals.
