KABUL (SW) – In a landmark development, Afghanistan’s national under-20 team of futsal players has cruised through to the Asian Championship 2019.
According to the Afghanistan Football Federation, the national team overpowered Tajikistan in the playoff with a clear margin of 4-1 to make it to the Asian Championship 2019. This is the first time Afghanistan would be represented at such high-level futsal competition.
In the match against Tajikistan, Afghanistan’s Hussain Mossavi scored twice while Hameed Husaini and Farzad Mohamadi scored one goal each to secure the place for the team in forthcoming mega event.
During the qualifying matches played in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan won its first match 5-0 against Turkmenistan. However, Iran managed to defeat Afghanistan 2-4 in the second qualifier.
The AFF has hailed reaching to the Asian Championship as a major development.
A total of 23 teams from different Asian teams are busy in qualifying matches for this championship in Uzbekistan, Mongolia and the United Arab Emirates. Only 12 would make it to the mega event to be hosted by Iran.
