Fund established to promote children s literature in Afghanistan

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Culture and Information (MoCI) has established a fund to support and promote literature for children in the country.

Ajmal Tormal, an official tasked with looking after this fund said on Saturday that the MoCI has been working on this project for around four years to promote writings about history, poetry and essays for children.

He urged the government to develop the curriculum keeping a focus on children's literature in the country.

Abdul Bari Jahani, Minister of Culture and Information, said on the occasion that nothing substantial has been done regarding development of children literature in the country of late.

Jahani added that the genres of poems and history has made progress in the recent years, but children’s literature has been neglected.

Mujeeb Mehrdad, Spokesman for the Ministry of Education called Afghanistan as a country that where there is no space for children's literature.

Asadullah Ghazanfar, Cultural Advisor to President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, said that the society grows when children are valued by their families. He emphasized on growth of the children literature in the country.

Children and adolescents need the texts, which is based on their capacity, since their cognitive capacities are not at a level to understand difficult texts.

Young children have shown particular interest in the short stories such as lullabies, rhythmic song and other melodious songs.

The children literature is linked with the educational level of the children and it is considered another specialized form of literature worldwide.
