JALALABAD (SW): The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) on Tuesday inaugurated new electricity supply project in Jalalabad city that would benefit up to four thousand residential units in the area.
The project would supply electricity from the Naghlo Power Dam to the first district of Jalalabad City. Gulab Mangal, governor of Nangarhar province, said on the occasion this project worth $ 2.497 million was initially contracted to the Afghan-German private company in the year 2014.
Ali Ahmad Osmani, interim minister for the MoEW, told the inauguration ceremony the project would have 19 power transformers. He underlined a number of other power supply projects are also in sight for Nangarhar besides efforts for the reconstruction of Daronta Dam.
Locals in Jalalabad have long been complaining about the shortage of electricity supply. Only a few areas surrounding the provincial capital Jalalabad and some areas in neighboring Behsud and Sur Rod districts have electricity available.
