JALALABAD (SW): Fareeda Momand, Minister for Higher Education and other officials laid the foundation stone for the grand Islamic University of Afghanistan in Nangarhar province on Thursday.
The Minister informed journalists on the occasion that the University would be completed in 15 years with the cost of some 250 million dollars. She added that after finalizing the master plan for this project, a donors’ conference would be called to raise funds for the project.
In the beginning, the MoHE has provided funds worth AFN 37 million from its kitty for the boundary wall of the University. Fareeda Momand added that feasibility study for this University has been completed by the Islamic University of Malaysia on the basis of a memorandum with the MoHE. According to the master plan, the University would have capacity to enroll up to 10, 000 students, and provide them to chose between a number of relevant faculties.
The proposed Islamic University of Afghanistan is located in a relatively volatile area near the Bati Kot, Rodat and Kot districts.
Gulab Mangal, the provincial governor, stressed that all measures would be put in place to ensure peace and security here. Mangal also urged Nangarhar residents to play their role in ensuring security.
