KABUL (SW): Foundation stone has been laid for a new cricket stadium in Nangarhar province on Wednesday.
Atif Mashal, president of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Gulab Mangal, governor of Nangarhar, Fazl Hadi Muslimyar, speaker of the Masharano Jirga (upper house), and a number of other dignitaries took part in the ground breaking ceremony. Mashal said on the occasion that the new stadium would match world-class quality, and would prove handy in nurturing the vast potential for cricket in the eastern zone.
The stadium would cost up to $ 2.5 million, and would be completed in two years’ time.
The ACB president said the board has funds worth $ 700, 000 available that would spend on erecting boundary walls, and paving the ground for the stadium. Mashal said the ACB aims to develop a cricket academy here as well.
