Foundation stone for boys and girls hostel laid in Helmand

LASHKARGAH (SW): For the very first time, foundation stone was laid for hostels for male and female university students in Lashkargah, Helmand on Tuesday.

Noor Ahmad Emal, director for education in the province, said on the occasion that the students at Helmand University have long been facing the problems of accommodations. He expressed optimism the new facilities would help resolve a number of issues faced by the male and female students here in this regard.

The hostels would be developed on 75 jeribs of land, and would provide housing facilities for up to 300 students.

Hayatullah Hayat, governor of Helmand, said on the occasion that this AFN 39 million project is line with the approval of the Council of Ministers. He also promised to allocate additional funds for the university.

The students have welcomed this move saying that it would help curb their daily expenses on housing. Talking to Salam Watandar, Niamatullah Sultani and Mustafa, two such students, said they have come from Ghor and Maidan Wardak provinces respectively, and the development of the hostel would end their worries about housing.

The Helmand University went operational four years ago, but still lacks a proper complex.
