MAIMANA (SW): A number of residents in northern Faryaab province have charged a former Jihadi commander for cutting off their water supply in Pashtonkot district and provincial capital Maimana City.
Hundreds of residents staged a demonstration in Maimana City and Pashtonkot district in the province on Sunday to protest against it. The protestors claimed that the former Jihadi commander, Ghulam Qader Rahmani, the father of Provincial Council head in Faryaab, has encroached upon the water supply line.
They said that it has been two months now since the water supply to Pashtonkot and Maimana City has been cut off. They added that their agriculture land have not been irrigated for two and a half months now.
Taher Rahmani, the head of provincial council in Faryaab, however said that this is a conspiracy against his family. He went on to say that such problems could be resolved through local government in the province. Meanwhile, Sayed Anwar Sadaat, governor of Faryaab, has confirmed the news and said that the reason behind cutting the water supply was not clear. The governor said he has tasked a committee to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
