12/11/2017

QALAT (SW): Chief of the provincial council in Zabul has said the Khak-e-Afghan district remains out of the government control since nearly a decade posing grim threat to the whole province.

In conversation with Salam Watandar, Atta Jan Haq Bayan said there is an abundance of foreign militants associated with the Al – Qaeda, Haqqani Network, Lashkar – Tayaba, Lashkar-e-Jhangavi and Daesh active in a number of districts namely Dai Chopan, Arghandab, Shamalzo, Nau Bahar and Mezana. The provincial council chief stressed the locals are exasperated with the militants.

Gul Mohammad and Dawa Khan, two Zabul residents, said in this regard that the government should do all it can to bring halt to fighting. They said a generation has lived through the conflict without any hope for an end to it.

Gul Islam Sayal, spokesman for the governor, has downplayed the reports about rising conflict in the province. He acknowledged that the Khak-e-Afghan remains out of government control, but the rest of province remains pretty much under the government control.
