MAIMANA (SW) – At least 40 families of foreign militants associated with Daesh have settled in Faryab province, the provincial governor said on Tuesday.
Governor Naqibullah Fayeq told a press conference in this connection that the militants’ families have settled in Almaar, Garzivan, Kohistan and Pashtunkot districts of the province.
In the meantime, a local resident told Salam Watandar that most of these foreign fighters are from Uzbekistan, and have settled in Almaar. He added these people are armed, and do not hesitate executing anyone they deem suspicious.
A local civil society activist, Mohammad Hassand Sardash, has charged the local administration of causing panic and fear instead of taking practical steps towards addressing the issue. He added the government officials should chalk out plan for security in the province and arrest of such people instead of holding press conferences to spread fears.
This comes a while after the Daesh militants distributed leaflets in some mosques of the province announce their enmity towards the Taliban here.
