KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Defense has claimed that foreign intelligence agencies are behind the surging insurgency in the country while a number of foreign militants are fighting shoulder to shoulder with the Taliban and militants against the government forces.
Dawlat Waziri, the MoD spokesman told journalist in Kabul on Monday that seventy percent of Daesh militants in Nangarhar are foreign fighters. He added that same was the case with the Taliban. Waziri added that thirty to forty percent of Taliban rebels are foreign militants.
Waziri noted that among the foreign militants included Punjabi militants from Pakistan, Uzbeks, Tajiks, Arab and Chechen fighters. The spokesman added that some 204 militants have been killed across the country in various clean-up operations.
He added that the Afghan National Army (ANA) has conducted 12 operations in Kunar, Maidan Wardak, Paktia, Ghazni, Zabul, Helmand, Uruzgan and Herat provinces.
The spokesman added that 12 ANA men fall during the line of duty in this time.
Siddique Siddiqui, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior said on the occasion that during the past 24 hours, Afghan National Police conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations with Afghan National Army and NDS to clear some of the areas from terrorists and enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan.
The operations were conducted in Kunar, Takhar, Faryab, Balkh, Paktiya and Helmand provinces, as a result eight armed insurgents were killed, one wounded and 10 others were arrested by Afghan National Security Forces, he said.
