KABUL (SW): Torrential rains in northern Baghlan provinces have caused heavy floods in the Khanjan district cutting-off the road link between the capital Kabul with a number of northern provinces.
More than 100 homes have been damaged due to the prevailing situation. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Rajab, head of security and reconstruction for the Salang Pass, told Salam Watandar that efforts are underway to clear the blocked points at the Salang Pass in a bid to reconnect Kabul to the northern parts of the country. “The road has been blocked since last night but I can promise to clear the way for a two-way traffic very soon”, he said.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Naseer Kohzad, director provincial disaster management authority, has confirmed that besides demolishing up to 120 homes, the floods have also destroyed crops at hundreds of acres of land.
He informed that damage assessment is underway after which the affected families would be compensated. “Our colleagues are busy in the field assessing the losses, we would provide aid and assistance after that”, he said.
According to the information available with the local authorities, the floods have left up to two hundred families displaced in the province’s Dahan-e-Ghori and Nahrin districts.
