KHOST CITY (SW): Flash floods caused by torrential rains have claimed at least 17 lives of two families in southeastern Khost province.
Reports from the Khost City suggest that Alisher and Sabari districts are worst affected. According to the locals, among the dead include 6 women, 8 children and 3 men.
Shadim Helal, director for the provincial disasters management authority told Salam Watandar that the floods hit these districts last evening.
He added that the victims were caught by floods when they were on their way back from Pakistan where they sought medical treatment.
All these unfortunate people belonged to two families, one from the Alisher and another from the Sabari district.
Mohammad Mubaraz Zadran, spokesman for the provincial government has confirmed the reports about death of 17 members of two families due to floods. Similar reports about flash floods have also been reported from eastern Nuristan province. No reports about casualties have emerged from there so far.
