HERAT CITY (SW) – At least four people got killed as flash floods caused havoc in a number of Herat districts.
Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar the Guzara, Enjeel, Zindajan, Ghoryan, Gulran, Kashk Kohna, Kashk Rubat Sangi, Pashton Zarghoon and Karkh districts have sustained damages due to the floods. He said teams of the army, disaster management authority and other public departments are busy in rescue and relief operations. He confirmed four people got killed due to floods.
Hundreds of residential homes, agriculture fields, gardens and bridges have been destroyed, he added.
Abdullah Himayat, head of the directorate of public works, said the main Herat – Islam Qala highway and the Herat – Torgonday highway are closed due to the floods. He advised people to avoid travelling on the main highways amid forecast for more rain and floods.
Earlier this month, 13 people were confirmed killed in Herat amid the recent flash floods triggered by torrential rains.
