KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan would face Sri Lanka in the first match of its maiden Asia Cup competitions later this year.
According to the schedule announced by the Asian Cricket Council, the mega event would kick off on September 15. Afghanistan would play its maiden match against Sri Lanka on September 17. In group stages, the Afghans would play second match against Bangladesh on September 20.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hosting the event in which former champion India is defending its title.
The teams competing have been divided in two groups. In Group A, India and Pakistan would be joined by a team from the qualifying rounds. Teams from the UAE, Malaysia, Nepal, Hong Kong, Oman and Singapore are going to compete for this slot. In Group B, Afghanistan is joined by Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Separately, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Wednesday announced squads for the forthcoming series against Ireland.
ODI Squad: Mohammad Shahzad, Javed Ahmadi, Ihsanullah Janat, Rehmat Shah, Asghar Stanikzai, Samiullah Shinwari, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, Aftab Alam, Ahmad Shirzad, Dawlat Zadran, Wafadar Momand
T20 Squad: Mohammad Shahzad, Usman Ghani, Hazratullah Zazai, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Asghar Stanikzai, Samiullah Shinwari, Mirwais Ashraf, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Zadran, Aftab Alam and Farid Malik.
The series would begin with three T20 matches on August 20, 22 and 24. Later, the two sides would compete for three ODIs on August 27, 29 and September 03.
