JALALABAD (SW) – Residents of Sur Rod district in Nangarhar on Monday protested against the alleged killing of five civilians in a security operation here.
According to the locals, the 02 Unit of the NDS forces, killed five people in the Bala Bagh area last night. Two such protesters, Mohammad Nazeer and Najibullah, told journalists during the protest demonstration that among the people killed included two elderly farmers, two drivers and a shopkeeper with no ties to the militants.
Atiqullah, another protester, said the driver killed in the operation was his nephew who was on his way back to the district after visiting a hospital in Jalalabad city. The protesters demanded the government to take notice, and punish the culprits responsible for the killing of civilians.
They also demanded an end to such ‘blind operatuions’.
Meanwhile, Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the governor, told Salam Watandar the NDS forces have killed key informers of the Taliban rebels. He said the government is looking into reports of civilian casualties in the operation.
