FEROZ KOH (SW) – At least two hundred families have been forced to flee their homes in Ghor province following clashes between the Taliban insurgents and the government forces.
Abdul Hameed Natiqi, member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the Taliban insurgents intensified their attacks on parts of the Feroz Koh city after taking control over the Ghor – Herat highway. He said close to 200 families from the city have been forced to flee their homes. Natiqi said the displaced families are now living under open sky without any food or shelter.
The local civil society has express concerns over the plight of the displaced families. Mohammad Wazeer Norani, a local civil society activist, said in this regard that a human catastrophe would emerge if situation remained as it is. The displaced families are in particular facing shortage of food.
Meanwhile, Mohammar Arif Aabir, spokesman for the provincial governor, said food aid has been distributed among the needy displaced families. He added the security forces are working on a plan to push the insurgents out of the city so that the displaced families can return to their homes.
According to the locals, the Taliban have destroyed Kamanj bridge on the main Ghor – Herat highway leaving many people stranded on both sides of it.
