PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – Intense fighting between the Taliban and security forces entered fourth day in Baghlan province.
According to the head of directorate of public health, Muhibullah Muhib, at least 100 security forces and civilians are killed and wounded so far. He confirmed 21 security forces and eight civilians got killed while 25 security forces and 40 civilians got injured in the clashes.
A number of local residents told Salam Watandar the Taliban militants torched four goods carrying vehicles in the Doey area of Pul-e-Khumri. It is said up to hundred families have been forced to flee from Doey due to the clashes.
A stranded passenger, Baseer, told Salam Watandar that he was on his way to Jawzjan with his family when the clashes led to the closure of the highway. Baseer and four of his family members got injured in a rocket attack by the Taliban in the Chashma-e-Sheer area of Pul-e-Khumri.
A local police commander, Bulbul Andarabi, said lack of resources is dragging the conflict.
Ahmad Jawed, spokesman for the police headquarters, said parts of the Doshi district have been cleared and heavy losses have been inflicted upon the Taliban. He added currently, clashes are underway around the Pul-e-Khumri city.
It is important to note the clashes have led to the closure of main Baghlan highway leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded.
