BADAKHSHAN (SW): The security forces have launched a clean-up operation on Taliban in Badakshan, however, 400 families have been displaced as a result.
The residents of the village of Ferghamiro in Jaram district of Badakhshan told Salam Watandar that as a result of increased artillery attacks by security forces, all residents of the village have been displaced to neighboring districts and other areas.
Ayan-Uddin, a resident of the village of Ferghamiro said that as a result of the increased security forces’ attacks on the Taliban positions, in addition to civilian casualties, heavy financial losses have also been inflicted on the residents and also have forced them to leave their homes and live in miserable conditions.
According to Ayan-Uddin, since the start of the operation, 25 civilians have been killed and injured, 400 families have been forced to leave their homes and more than 200 homes have been damaged.
The villagers who have been displaced to Baharak district told Salam Watandar that most of them have no news of their family members for the past seven days when they had to escape their village due to the intensity of fighting between the security forces and the Taliban and other armed groups.
Abdul Khaliq Aqsa, police chief of Badakhshan said the Taliban have taken shelters in the civilian homes and have been targeting the security forces from the villages. He added that the Taliban have been using the civilians as shelters to attack the security forces and prevent the scale of operations on them.
The security officials in Badakhshan said the clean-up operations have begun a week ago to eliminate Taliban from the Jaram district and will continue until all the Taliban and other armed groups are totally eliminated from the area.
