MAIDAN CITY (SW): Abdul Rahman Mangal, the spokesperson for governor in central Maidanwardak province, has said that the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have killed 21 insurgents and wounded six more in Jalriz district.
Mangal told Salam Watandar that the Taliban from the neighboring Ghazni and Zabul provinces came to Jalriz to take control of the area. He said that the security forces made a strategic retreat last night in a bid to prevent civilian causalities.
He further said that hundreds of supporting forces from Kabul and Maidan City have joined the security forces on the fronts who have launched a mop up operation in the area.
Local officials in Maidan Wardak deny any causalities being inflicted upon the security forces but a source in the province, however told Salam Watandar that 5 policemen and 3 civilians have been killed while six more civilians have been injured.
Naqibullah Haidari, the district chief in Jalriz, said that the fighting has ceased and fresh troops have been dispatched to support the security forces.
