FIFA bans Salim Israfeel Kohistani

MONITORING (SW) – The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has found nine individuals including a former Afghan national footballer, Salim Israfeel Kohistani, guilty of having been involved in match manipulation.

Living in Denmark, Kohistani currently plays for Vejen Sports Forening. He is former national team player of Afghanistan. He represented Afghanistan in almost every youth team. He became a member of the senior team in 2005. He played 3 times in SAFF Cup, 2 times in AFC Challenge Cup and 2 times in South Asian Games. He also represented the Afghanistan national football team in the FIFA World Cup 2010 qualifiers, where they were eliminated by Syria, in 2007. He recently scored one goal for Afghanistan in Tau Devi Lal Stadium which led Afghanistan 2–0 victory over Bhutan in 2012 AFC Challenge Cup qualification.

Kohistani has plead not guilty, and has said he would soon provide evidence in support of his innocence.

In total, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has found nine individuals – eight players/former players as well as one players’ agent – guilty of having been involved in match manipulation in violation of art. 69 par. 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (Unlawfully influencing match results).

The following individuals have been banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for life:

•             Mr Karlon Murray, Trinidad and Tobago

•             Mr Keyeno Thomas, Trinidad and Tobago

•             Mr Hellings Mwakasungula, Malawi

•             Mr Ibrahim Kargbo, Sierra Leone

•             Mr Kudzanai Shaba, Zimbabwe

•             Mr Séïdath Tchomogo, Benin

•             Mr Leonel Duarte, Cuba

•             Mr Mohammad Salim Israfeel Kohistani, Afghanistan

Moreover, the Kenyan player Mr George Owino Audi has been banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of ten (10) years. In addition, a fine in the amount of CHF 15,000 has been imposed upon him.

The decisions were notified to the individuals concerned today, the date on which the relevant bans come into force.
