PUL-I-ALAM (SW): Officials in eastern Logar province have vowed to finally establish a high-school in the restive Karwar district for the first time in over 14 years.

Mohammad Halim Fidai, Governor of Logar province told a gathering in the provincial capital on Saturday the Logar remained deprived of education for too long. Kharwar made headlines last month when SW discovered that the whole district has had only one high-school graduate. The governor said today lifting the education sector remains his top priority for the first 100-days in office.

Samar Gul Rashed, District Chief of Kharwar, said on the occasion that the only high-school graduate the district had lost life in a roadside bomb when he was on his way to join university entrance exam. The district chief asked Ministry of Education to pay due attention to Kharwar district.

“Not a single student has made it to the university from Kharwar district this year.” He lamented.

According to the locals, the district had 11 schools out of which 6 were not functioning and only 5 were open to the students. Dr.Nasir Khan, one of the tribal elders in Kharwar said that these 6 schools were not functioning due to the indifference shown by the Education Department in the district.

Mohammad Sadiq Stanekzai, Deputy for Edcuation Department in Logar however, said out of all 11 schools 3 serve as secondary schools and 3 others were primary schools where around 3000 students attend. Kharwar is one of the remotest and volatile districts in Logar province with no functional school for girls.
