GHAZNI CITY (SW): A number of civil society activists and faculty members of the Ghazni University (GU) expressed fears on Thursday over fundamental ideas allegedly thriving in the campus.
Speaking on behalf of the lectures, students and civil activists, Hamidullah Sarwari, the secretary for Ghazni Provincial Council and lecturer at Ghazni University, said that some extremist groups are actively promoting fundamentalism and recruiting at the GU. Sarwari said the situation at the Ghazni University was getting alarming. He asked the government to take steps and stop the extremist activities going on at the GU.
The civil activists in this province said that the Ghazni University has turned into focal point for biased ideas, fundamentalism and division, and it have brought the learning process for the students at standstill. They claimed that some politicians fuel ethnic prejudice, sectarian division and regional differences so that they can gain their personal interests.
Lectures and students at the Ghazni University asked the Ministry of Higher Education to resolve the administrative problem existing here.
Speaking at the press conference, Abdul Rahim Nawrozi, the acting chancellor of the Ghazni University, rejected the claims made by the lectures and students. He said they had raised such claims in the past as well without any proof.
Faisal Amin, the spokesperson for Ministry of Higher Education said in this regard that the differences at the Ghazni University are due to the administrative reason. He assured that the differences would be settled very soon.
It is worth-noting that the security forces arrested a number student from the Ghazni University over charges of suspected extremist activities.
