PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – Officials in Baghlan province have expressed grim concerns over eminent fall of the Nahreen district to the Taliban if additional troops are not sent to the area.
Fazaluddin Muradi, governor of Nahreen district, has said the Taliban rebels have gathered around the district, and are engaged in deadly clashes with the security forces. Mohammad Haneef Kohgadaey, secretary of the provincial council, has said only the local uprising force is resisting the Taliban in the district. He feared if additional troops are not dispatched to the area soon, it would fell to the rebels.
Mohammad Rasheed, a local elder, said up to 500 families got displaced due to ragging fighting in the area.
Meanwhile, Ikramuddin Sare, police chief in the province, has stressed the security forces are prepared to conduct clean-up operation against the rebels in Nahreen district.
