HERAT CITY (SW) – Herat health officials and civil society activists have warned that the number of people infected with the coronavirus will increase during the Eid holidays due to the outbreak of the second wave.
This comes as officials blame people are not heeding medical advice as many public places, such as wedding halls, coffee shops and public baths have been re-opened. They emphasized that a catastrophe will happen if people do not listen to the health expert’s advice.
Director public health, Abdul Hakim Tamna warned that the opening of public places as well as the Eid holidays would certainly increases the risks of a second wave of the virus.
He said so far more than 22,000 suspected cases of coronavirus have been tested in the province, of which 5,482 were positive. He added that with the arrival of Eid al-Adha, the second wave of the virus, which has now spread to Mashhad in Iran, could come to the province through migrants.
Herat's director of health said medical tests show that in the second wave, youngsters and even those who contracted the first in first phase will become infected again.
Herat health officials have urged people to stay indoors and follow medical advice to prevent a second outbreak.
