SAR-I-PUL (SW) – Residents and provincial council members in Sari-Pul province fear the Sancharak district might fell to the Taliban.
Assadullah Khuram, member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar the Taliban stormed and torched four police check posts without resistance in Sancharak. He said the Taliban are closing in on the district center, and the government’s control is limited to district administrative compound and police headquarters alone.
He warned if additional troops are not dispatched to the area soon, the district would fall to the Taliban.
Naqibullah Daqiq, district governor, has acknowledged these concerns. He said the Taliban from Ghor and Jawzjan provinces have gathered to stage massive onslaught on Sancharak.
He added if the security forces failed to take effective measures, the district might fell to the insurgents.
