HERAT CITY (SW) – The fate of the young man who voiced his protest right after president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani ended his speech in Herat on Thursday is still unclear.
Jehad Gul, the brother of the man, Raees Zazai, said the guards of the president have beaten up his brother. He added the whereabouts of Zazai are still unknown.
He said Zazai just raised his voice to convey his complaint about Sardar Khan Malakzay, member of the Paktia provincial council, who has encroached upon their family property. Jehad Gul said his brother lost conscious three times due to the physical abuse by the presidential guards.
The mother of Raes Zazai has also raised her voice for justice in this regard. She demanded the president to help release his son, and grant them justice in getting back their land.
Jailani Farhad, spokesman for the provincial governor, told Salam Watandar he cannot comment on this case as it is beyond his jurisdiction.
However, Shah Husain Murtazavi, spokesman for the president, on his Facebook page rejected reports about the physical abuse of Zazai. He said the president had directed the protocol guards to take Zazai away and listen to his complaints.
