KABUL/ GARDEZ (SW): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has made it clear that only the people on both sides of the Durand Line in Afghanistan and Pakistan can decide the fate of it.
In a press conference here on Wednesday, Shakib Mustaghni, spokesman for the MoFA, criticized Pakistan’s unilateral moves on this disputed line. He noted that during a recent meeting between the national security advisors of Afghanistan and Pakistan in London, the issue of Durand Line was never discussed. He added that ongoing unprovoked shelling from Pakistan into Afghanistan would further harm the bilateral ties.
Mustaghni also condemned Pakistan’s other unilateral measures such as military drills, fencing and erecting barriers at the Durand Line.
Meanwhile, protestors in Paktia province took to the streets on Wednesday to condemn Pakistan’s moves along the Durand Line. They vowed to defend their rights over the land in the wake of Pakistan Army’s efforts to lay barbed wire along the Durand Line.
Khalil Wafadar, a participant of this rally, informed Salam Watandar that the people of the region on both sides of the line are against Pakistan’s moves to dig trenches and lay barbed wire. The protestors urged the Kabul government to take immediate and effective steps against these moves by Islamabad.
