KABUL (SW): Here in Afghanistan, the citizens are victims to many political and religious’ conspiracies. The conspiracy more than anything is against the body. Stone against body, bullet against body, fist and kicks against body, all speak volumes of humiliation the body goes through. Here the body is utterly devalued and is likened to as just another “object”.
Farkhunda is arguably the most tragic case in which her body fell victim to such conspiracy.
Smashing her body and setting it on fire to the extent that the ashes are vanished, stand for nothing but sheer elimination of a body disliked by the mob.
The conspiracy against her body is formed with a blink of an eye and is carried out in the most barbaric and despicable way possible. The truth is that Farkhunda’s death revels significant like-mindedness among the crowd in terms of their fundamental ideology. No particular religious group was behind this act.
The mob that killed Farkhunda represented “citizens” of the country, hence the tragedy of Farkhunda’s death demonstrated the catharsis emotions of such citizens.
This irrational demeanor by the citizens greatly emanates from their religious fervor. Religious fervor presents us with irrational acts and even the catastrophic ones.
The worst aspect of this tragedy is the inaction of the perpetrators who directly flared it up or were just on-lookers or even those who stepped in to justify it.
This sad incident, in fact, slipped the mask off the idea, which is running through the minds of most citizens in this country. An idea that sometimes dictates the mania for committing murder.
This incident at first might seem as an isolated case but in reality the repeat of such incident is not far away.
Farkhunda can tell us to be prepared for it.
