Families on the run from Aqcha, Mordyan in Jawzjan

SHEBERGHAN (SW): Local officials in Jawzjan province have said the Taliban have besieged Aqcha and Mordyan districts, and if the government failed to take immediate actions they would fall to the Taliban.

Haleema Sadaf Karimi, member of the provincial council, told Salam Watandar that the security forces have no coordination among them as the militants have managed to wage attacks on Qosh Tapa, Mordyan, Darzab and Faiz Abad districts. She said these attacks and subsequent persecutions have forced many families to flee their homes.

Officials at the directorate for refugees and repatriates in Jawzjan and Sar-i-Pul have confirmed that more than one thousands families have fled due to the raging violence. Syed Talib Sadat, director for refugees and repatriates in Jawzjan, said up to 400 internally displaced families live in the Noor Abad refugee town alone. Abdul Ahad Iqbal, director for refugees and repatriates in Sar-i-Pul, said in this regard that aid has been distributed among the displaced people in two phases.

He said the available aid is not sufficient for the displaced families of Mirza Olang either.

Rehmatullah Turkistani, police chief for Jawzjan, said the security forces would soon launch clearance operation in Aqcha and Mordyan after security offensives in Mirza Olang.

Meanwhile, Qari Yosuf Ahmadi, spokesman for the Taliban, claimed to have overrun a number of check posts in Aqcha and Mordyan districts.
