KABUL (SW) – Scholars, literary figures and historians remembered and paid homage to 19th Century’s famed Islamic ideologist Sayid Jamaluddin Afghan in an academic seminar in Kabul and Kunar province.
The three-day seminarwas organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with the Afghanistan Academy of Sciences.
Mohammad Dawood Nazim, a researcher at the AAS, hailed Sayid Jamaluddin Afghan as an iconic figure with acumen and knowledge. He said that impacts of the late Sayid’s wisdom-based movement resonated beyond all borders.
Syed Asghar Hashimi, professor at the Kunar University, said in his remarks that Sayid Jamaluddin Afghan – one of the founders of Islamic Modernism as well as an advocate of Pan-Islamic unity – was very effective with his short but effective speeches that are still relevant.
Deputy Minister for the MoIC, Rasool Bawari, also highlighted the political and religious views of Sayid.
The seminar concluded with recommendations to gather and translate into national languages all authentic academic material related to Sayid Jamaluddin Afghan, establish research center, establish a state medal in his name and preserve his birthplace in his native village in Kunar province.
