MAZAR-E-SHARIF (SW): Ragging violence and insecurity on key highways in northern parts of the country have hampered imports and exports of good via the Hairatan port, an official said on Thursday.
Sayamuddin Pasarlay, spokesman for the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), told Salam Watandar the prevailing situation has left negative impacts on trade via this key route, and distribution of goods within the country. He noted efforts are underway to overcome this issue in a bid to normalize trade volume here.
Meanwhile, Musafar Qoqandi, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce and Industries (MoCI), has denied reports about hurdles affecting trade at the Hairatan port. He asserted that international trade via northern ports, particularly via the Aqina port, is on the rise. He said diversification of export routes might have reduced the trade volume at Hairatan port. He, however, hinted the exports via Hairatan port to China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan would surge this year.
